5 Healthy Ways to Snack While Traveling

5 Healthy Ways to Snack While Traveling

Traveling can be hard on your body for many reasons including stress, fear, anxiety and more. Why not eat foods that help you deal with these emotions and make life easier and healthier? As always, we are here to offer you some super easy options that you can take with you on your travels. They may help you sleep, relax, fill you up, or keep you regular!

5 Healthy, Easy, and Tasty Snacks to Eat While You Travel

Almonds

Almonds are quick and easy and don’t take up much space in your bag. First of all, they are full of protein and will help ease your hunger on long flights and trips when you are in the car or running through an airport. Second of all, they are SO good for your body!

Almonds keep your immune system healthy, which is great for travel because you are surrounded by so many people and kids. Not everyone loves to travel and sometimes it can be very stressful. Almonds are great to keep your blood pressure down so you can relax and arrive at your destination stress-free! Because of the manganese, they provide you with energy (and pair that up with an apple for the ULTIMATE energy boost that is better than coffee). One more thing about these little crunchy nuts is that they are packed with fiber which can help prevent constipation. Again, stress, time-zones, altitude, and much more can add to your biological clock not ticking quite right. Did we mention they really are delicious?

Bananas

Bananas have magnesium and potassium which naturally relax your muscles. We wouldn’t recommend eating a banana if you need energy because they have a lot of sugar but we do recommend eating one on a trip where you can relax and take a nap. This fruit has serotonin which aids in sleeping.

Cucumber

Cucumber slices are refreshing and FULL of water, 95% to be exact! Because traveling on an airplane is known to dehydrate you, cucumbers can give you the fluids that you need with a nice crunch at the same time.

Oranges

They are easy to peel and smell great! While getting your dose of Vitamin C, an orange can help with the hormone Cortisol, which is released during stress. Just in case travel gets you shaky, remember that oranges are a sweet treat that has many great benefits.

Herbal Tea

Herbal Tea is a tea that doesn’t have any caffeine to begin with (as opposed to Decaf Tea which extracts the caffeine through a process) Herbal Tea hydrates you not only because it’s made with water, but because it’s caffeine free! (we all know caffeine dehydrates you) Pick any flavor you like and enjoy! If you pair it up with cucumbers, you may have to hit the bathroom a few too many times, but if you think about it, it’s good because your legs will get a nice stretch! Sounds like a win-win.

A few bonus snacks:

cherries (for sleep), watermelon (hydration). freshly popped popcorn at your home (fiber to keep you regular), dark, dark chocolate ( improves blood flow and lowers blood pressure)

And if you tend to get SUPER hungry on long trips, why not pack your own food? Choose high protein and nutrient-dense foods and avoid salty snacks, dairy, tons of bread, and potato products. AND DRINK LOADS OF WATER!

Eat healthy while you travel so your body stays healthy and don’t worry, when you get back, You Travel i Care can fill your refrigerator and have it ready with all the non-healthy foods you want!

Travel safely and see you soon!
